Prueter Engineering Services

Prueter Engineering provides specialized consulting services designed to help plant owner-operators make confident decisions about their most critical pressure equipment. Our expertise centers on damage mechanism identification, inspection guidance, Fitness-for-Service (FFS) assessments, advanced stress analysis, ASME/API Code compliance, and novel mechanical integrity solutions. Whether you require urgent damage evaluations, turnaround planning, or long-term maintenance and reliability strategies, Prueter Engineering delivers practical, defensible solutions that protect both safety and performance.

Fitness-for-Service (FFS) Assessments

As a recognized leader in fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments, Prueter Engineering has the experience and technical depth to evaluate equipment under the most challenging conditions. FFS evaluations allow plant operators to determine whether damaged, aged, or undocumented components can continue operating safely or if repair or replacement is required.
Our FFS services include all three assessment levels, with particular expertise in Level 3 evaluations that require advanced finite element analysis and design-by-analysis methodologies. These in-depth studies provide the technical justification necessary for confident run–repair–replace decisions, ensuring both safety and cost efficiency.

Damage mechanisms we assess include:

  • Corrosion/erosion – general metal loss, local thin areas, and pitting

  • Shell distortion, weld misalignment, dents, and gouges

  • High-temperature creep and component remaining life estimation

  • High-temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA)

  • Fire damage and in-service metallurgical embrittlement

  • Thermal-mechanical fatigue and vibration-related fatigue

  • Fracture mechanics and brittle fracture screening/risk analysis

  • Stress corrosion cracking and wet H2S-related cracking/blistering

By applying industry standards such as API 579/ASME FFS-1 and leveraging modern computational analysis tools, Prueter Engineering ensures every FFS evaluation is accurate, defensible, and tailored to your specific operational needs.

Pressure Equipment Design & Code Compliance

Prueter Engineering offers specialized consulting in ASME and API codes and standards compliance, ensuring your equipment designs and operations meet global safety and regulatory requirements. Our consulting covers a wide range of equipment, from high-pressure vessels to aboveground storage tanks.
Through detailed compliance calculations and design reviews, we help clients avoid costly nonconformance issues while maintaining operational efficiency. Every recommendation is supported by our deep involvement in ASME and API code development, ensuring both accuracy and practicality.

Design & compliance services include:

  • Pressure vessels (ASME Section VIII Div. 1, 2, and 3)

  • Heat exchangers (ASME Section VIII Div. 1, 2, and 3)

  • Piping systems (ASME B31.1 and B31.3)

  • Aboveground storage tanks (API 650, API 620, API 653)

  • ASME/API codes and standards interpretation

Our compliance services provide peace of mind that every system operates safely and meets jurisdictional and industry requirements.

Mechanical Integrity & Repair Consulting

Mechanical integrity is essential for minimizing risk and ensuring long-term equipment reliability. Prueter Engineering brings extensive field and analytical experience to guide repair strategies, damage mechanism reviews, and integrity evaluations for a wide range of pressure equipment and piping systems.
Our repair guidance incorporates detailed knowledge of welding, post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), and advanced stress analysis to ensure both short-term safety and long-term durability. By aligning our repair recommendations with code requirements and operational realities, we help clients achieve effective outcomes while minimizing downtime.

Key integrity and repair services include:

  • Welding and PWHT simulations

  • Advanced bolted joint integrity analysis

  • Qualification of fabrication defects and weld misalignment

  • Damage mechanism reviews and material selection guidance

  • Metallurgical and root cause failure analysis

These services are designed to give operators the clarity they need to proceed with confidence, knowing that repairs are technically justified and optimized for safety.

Advanced Stress Analysis & Design-by-Analysis (DBA)

When standard evaluation methods are insufficient, Prueter Engineering employs advanced finite element analysis and design-by-analysis (DBA) techniques to address the most complex challenges. These methods provide detailed insight into equipment behavior under demanding conditions such as high pressure, thermal gradients, and dynamic loading.
By using elastic-plastic modeling, vibration analysis, and heat transfer calculations, we deliver results that help clients fully understand their equipment’s performance envelope. This allows for more precise evaluations and defensible decisions that support long-term operational success.

Advanced analysis services include:

  • Non-linear elastic-plastic finite element analysis

  • Natural frequency and vibration evaluations

  • Thermal-mechanical fatigue analysis

  • Pressurization guidance for heavy-walled components

  • Seismic, wind, and nozzle load evaluations

Our advanced analysis capabilities provide the technical clarity needed for high-stakes decisions about equipment safety and performance.
